Suffolk Overview - Placed to the north-east of The city of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of England generally known as East Anglia. The county has an area of 1,466 sq mls along with a population of around 0.73 million. The county touches the neighbouring counties of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex, Ipswich is the capital town, whilst additional important towns include Lowestoft, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds. The county is mostly low-lying and flat, in the north of the county you will find wetland areas which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county was split into 2 administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
