Suffolk Overview - Positioned to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is in the region of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk incorporates a land area of 1,466 square mls and has a population of about seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county is bordered by the counties of Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the county town, and other important towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is largely flat and low-lying, in the north of the county there are wetland areas which are within The Broads. From 1889-1974 the county was divided into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
