Suffolk Overview - Situated to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is in the region of England known as East Anglia. Suffolk incorporates an area of 1,466 sq mls and has a population of roughly 0.73 million. Suffolk is bounded by the counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk, Ipswich is the capital town, while additional major towns include Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is for the most part flat and low-lying, in the north of the county you will find wetland areas which are within The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
