Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the area of Great Britain called East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 square miles and a population of around seven hundred and thirty thousand. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, Ipswich is the county town, and other important towns are Lowestoft, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Bury Saint Edmunds. The county of Suffolk is generally flat and low-lying, in the north of the county you will find wetland areas that are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
