Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is within the region of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 square miles plus a population of around seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county touches the counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk, the major town is Ipswich, whilst additional important towns include Bury Saint Edmunds, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is generally flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county you can find wetland areas which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county was split into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
