Suffolk Overview - Set to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is within the area of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq mls plus a population of about 0.73 million. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, Ipswich is the major town, while other significant towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Bury Saint Edmunds. Suffolk is primarily low-lying and flat, in the north of the county there are wetland areas that are part of The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was divided into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
