Suffolk Overview - Found to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is part of the region of The UK called East Anglia. The county has an area of 1,466 sq miles plus a population of approximately 0.73 million. The county borders the neighbouring counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the capital town is Ipswich, whilst additional important towns include Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Lowestoft. Suffolk is primarily flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county there are wetland areas which are within The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county was separated into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
