Suffolk Overview - Located to the north-east of The city of London, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the region of Great Britain known as East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq mls and has a population of around seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county of Suffolk touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the capital town is Ipswich, whilst other important towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Lowestoft. Suffolk is largely low-lying and flat, in the northern part of the county you'll find wetland areas that are part of The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county was divided into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
