Suffolk Overview - Placed to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is in the region of England known as East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq mls along with a population of about seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, the capital town is Ipswich, while other major towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds. The county is mostly flat and low-lying, you'll find wetland areas in the north of the county that are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
