Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is in the area of Great Britain known as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 square mls and a population of roughly seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county borders the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the county town is Ipswich, while other vital towns include Lowestoft, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. The county of Suffolk is mainly low-lying and flat, in the northern part of the county there are wetland areas that are part of The Broads. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
