Suffolk England - Established to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the area of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 square miles plus a population of about 730,000. The county borders the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, Ipswich is the county town, whilst other significant towns are Bury Saint Edmunds, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. Suffolk is generally low-lying and flat, in the north of the county there are wetland areas which are part of The Broads. During the period 1889-1974 the county was divided into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
