Suffolk - Positioned to the north-east of Greater london, the county of Suffolk is within the region of England referred to as East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq mls and a population of approximately 730,000. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the county town, and other major towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds. The county is mainly low-lying and flat, in the north of the county you can find wetland areas which are part of The Broads. During the period 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
